CBAM COMPLIANCE FOR FASTENER MANUFACTURERS
Monitoring plan, emissions calculation and verification support.
Since 1 January 2026, imports of iron and steel fasteners covered by CBAM are subject to a carbon cost. If your plant cannot provide verified actual emissions, your European customers may have to rely on EU default values — potentially increasing their CBAM exposure and reducing your competitiveness. Worldfast prepares your Monitoring Plan and supports you through emissions calculation and verification.
Our own CBAM application. We have built cbam.worldfast.es to make preparing your Monitoring Plan easier and to speed up the whole CBAM process. Your team enters the plant's data in one place, and the platform calculates the emissions for each CN code and generates the Monitoring Plan and the reports for your European customers.
CBAM WORLDFAST IN TWO MINUTES
What CBAM changes for your factory, how our application works step by step and which dates you need to keep in mind.
WHAT IS CBAM?
Your EU customer pays for the carbon embedded in your screws. The amount depends on your data.
The EU importer must surrender CBAM certificates based on the emissions embedded in the fasteners it imports. The emissions can be determined using EU default values or verified actual values.
Default value
The European Commission assigns your country and product a deliberately high value, with a mark-up that rises every year (+10 % in 2026, +20 % in 2027, +30 % from 2028).
Steel screw, China, 2026: 7,01 t CO₂e/t
Actual emissions
What your plant really emits: the steel you buy, your power, your material yield. Calculated using the official EU methodology and confirmed by an accredited verifier.
Example: 2,07 t CO₂e/t
THE MONITORING PLAN
The monitoring plan is the document that makes it possible
The monitoring plan is the basis for your CBAM emissions data. It defines how your plant identifies, measures and records the information needed to calculate the embedded emissions of your products. It covers your production processes, energy and fuel consumption, purchased steel and other relevant precursors, production volumes, material flows and calculation methods. Without a robust monitoring plan, your actual emissions cannot be consistently calculated, documented and prepared for verification.
Monitoring plan
Describes how emissions are measured and calculated.
Production data
Steel, energy, production and material yield.
Verification
An accredited verifier confirms the emissions data.
CBAM Registry
Verified emissions data available to your European customers.
THE TIMELINE
- 2026First year subject to CBAM. All 2026 data must be reported.
- Jan–Feb 2027Verification of 2026 data begins; certificates on sale from February.
- 30 Sept 2027Deadline for the 2026 declaration.
- 2027–28Default-value mark-up: 20 % in 2027 and 30 % from 2028.
- 2029–34The benchmark deduction is phased out: it reaches zero in 2034.
Reliable emissions data can become a competitive advantage. Manufacturers with robust, traceable and verifiable emissions data can provide their European customers with greater confidence and reduce reliance on EU default values. Preparing your emissions data now puts your company in a stronger position for the CBAM verification and reporting process.
HOW WORLDFAST HELPS
We prepare your plan, calculate your emissions and support you through verification
We have been in the fastener field for the last 30 years. We have developed a platform that translates the CBAM rules into the specific case of fasteners, backed by a team that knows how your plant works and what raw material it uses.
What you get
- Complete monitoring plan
Prepared in English and covering the information required under the applicable CBAM methodology, ready for verification. - Your emissions calculated
We calculate the emissions for each CN code using your plant's data and the EU's official methodology. - Support through verification
We prepare the supporting documentation and help you respond to the verifier's questions throughout the verification process. - Plan kept up to date
We update your plan and calculations when applicable CBAM rules, reporting requirements or your production processes change. - Fully online
The whole programme is delivered remotely: no travel or on-site costs added.
How we work
Everything runs on our own platform, developed exclusively for CBAM in the fastener industry. It centralises your data, calculates your emissions and generates your plan and reports.
Initial assessment
We scope your case — products and CN codes, processes, steel grades and suppliers — and within one week you receive a firm quotation.
Monitoring plan
We guide your team through data collection and use the information to prepare your Monitoring Plan, within 4–6 weeks.
Verification
We coordinate with the accredited verifier and support you throughout the verification process.
Every year
We update your data, emissions calculations, Monitoring Plan and report to reflect changes in your production and applicable CBAM requirements.
A SIMPLE EXAMPLE
Steel screw manufacturer, origin China, exporting 5.000 t/year to the EU. Certificate price: 82 €/t CO₂e (Q3 2026).
| Per tonne of screws | Without a monitoring plan | With a verified plan |
|---|---|---|
| Declared emissions (t CO₂e/t) | 7,01 | 2,07 |
| EU benchmark deduction (t CO₂e/t) | 1,33 | 1,68 |
| CBAM certificates per tonne | 5,68 | 0,38 |
| CBAM cost per tonne | 466 € | 31 € |
| CBAM cost per year (5.000 t) | 2.330 k€ | 157 k€ |
Figures based on the Commission's August 2026 default values and the Q3 2026 certificate price, with verified data from the plant and its steel mill. The deduction with verified data reflects the plant's actual process and the free allocation embedded in its steel (IR (EU) 2025/2620). Your exact saving depends on your steel and your data.
Other countries, without a monitoring plan
| Country | Default value CN 7318 15 | 2026 emissions (×1,10) | Certificates per tonne | Cost per tonne | Cost per year (5.000 t) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| China | 6,375 | 7,01 | 5,68 | 466 € | 2.330 k€ |
| India | 5,72 | 6,29 | 4,96 | 407 € | 2.035 k€ |
| Vietnam | 2,75 | 3,03 | 1,70 | 139 € | 695 k€ |
| Malaysia* | 4,801 | 5,28 | 3,95 | 324 € | 1.620 k€ |
* For Malaysia, the value for 'Other countries and territories'. With a verified plan the result does not depend on the country but on the plant: it is the right-hand column of the table above.
INVESTMENT
Year 1: Set-up and first verification. From year 2: annual compliance.
CBAM compliance is an annual process. Our programme starts with an initial assessment, followed by a one-time set-up covering the first year and an annual fee from year 2 onwards. All fees are indicative; the exact quotation is provided after the initial assessment.
We assess your products and CN codes, production processes, steel grades and suppliers. Within one week, you receive a tailored quotation for the set-up and annual compliance fees. If you proceed with the programme, the full assessment fee is deducted from the set-up fee.
$7.500–$15.000
per installation
Set-up and first-year compliance
- Installation and process inventory
- First-year data collection with your team
- Complete Monitoring Plan, including revisions
- Emissions calculations and supporting documentation
- Support throughout the first verification
Payment terms: 50 % at signature and 50 % on delivery of the plan. The $1.000 assessment fee is credited against the total set-up fee.
$4.000–$8.000
per installation, per year
Ongoing CBAM compliance
The annual fee is confirmed during the initial assessment, based on the same criteria as the set-up: number of CN codes, production processes, steel grades and suppliers.
- Platform access and quarterly data updates
- Annual data review and emissions report
- Monitoring Plan updates following relevant regulatory or production changes
- Preparation and support for annual verification
- Emissions data for your European customers
Not included
